
Currently appearing in various films and dramas, Kim Mi-kyung is known for almost exclusively portraying motherly roles. While she is warmly recognized by today’s generation as a familiar mom or friendly aunt, she was acknowledged as a versatile actress capable of playing a wide range of characters since her debut.

Kim Mi-kyung began her acting career in 1985 with the play “Mr. Han’s Chronicle”, taking on an impressive 13 roles in the production, leaving a lasting impression. She continued to demonstrate her solid acting skills in multiple stage plays such as “Even Birds Quit This World” and “Teacher Choi”, gaining attention in the theater world. Notably, she won the Best New Actress Award in the Theater category at the 26th Baeksang Arts Awards for her performance in “Teacher Choi”.
Building on her theater experience, Kim Mi-kyung transitioned to television, where she showcased her deep acting skills in various dramas, earning the love of viewers. Particularly memorable were her roles as the head court lady in “The Great Doctor” and Joo Sung-ran in “Master’s Sun”, expanding her acting spectrum.

In 2013, Kim Mi-kyung cemented her image as a “mom” in the drama “The Heirs”, where she played the mother of Eun-sang, displaying comedic chemistry with Kim Sung-ryung. Later, in “Another Miss Oh”, she played the realistic mother Hwang Deok-yi, receiving widespread praise for her relatable performance.
Despite being dubbed the “nation’s mom,” Kim has continuously taken on a variety of characters, showing her versatility by playing hackers, fashion company employees, detectives, and politicians, proving her broad acting range.

Kim Mi-kyung once caught attention on the JTBC variety show “The Receipt” when she talked about refusing a melodramatic role. She revealed that she could never do romance, explaining that she dislikes roles centered around love stories.
She recounted an instance when she rejected a project because of a kiss scene, saying, “The character was a mother who had an affair and was supposed to kiss her lover, but I firmly refused the role, saying, ‘If I have to do this, I won’t participate in the drama.'”
When MC Tak Jae-hoon asked if she would still refuse if the pay was 6 billion won (approx 4.5 million USD), Kim Mi-kyung firmly responded, “If I were swayed by money and accepted, it would ruin the project.”
Having consistently appeared in various productions, Kim Mi-kyung’s principled approach to acting and active participation make it clear that viewers can look forward to seeing her continue to deliver even deeper performances in the future.
